CHARLES MURRAY is the W.H. Brady Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. He received his B.A. in history at Harvard University and his Ph.D. in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has written for numerous newspapers and journals, including the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Weekly Standard, Commentary, and National Review. His books include Losing Ground: American Social Policy 1950-1980, What It Means to Be a Libertarian, and Real Education: Four Simple Truths for Bringing America’s Schools Back to Reality. His new book, Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960-2010, will be published at the end of January.

Liberty In America was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in Olean, New York. Liberty In America was organized by former Chief Administrative Officer, CATO Institute benefactor and former employee Elizabeth Powers who, with her husband, Christopher Powers, own the Liberty Bus, a rolling petition with over 25,000 signatures from citizens all over the country, as well as other parts of the world.

What We Do: Liberty in America has embarked on a national education and motivation tour around America to inspire citizens to take back control of their government. We teach people about the basic concepts of liberty in a free society and discuss how vast the chasm is today between individual liberty and the constant increase in regulation and power held by our federal government.

How We Do It: We, as a grassroots, non-profit, non-partisan organization, meet with groups, businesses, home groups, and other organizations and hold educational programs that discuss: What Is Capitalism? Is Private Charity More Effective Than Public Charity? Are Government Officials Smarter than the Average Citizen? What Place Does Law Have in a Free Society? We also offer a program discussing States Rights, or Nullification. Beth Powers is also an experienced and talented speaker, with bookings available for your event.
